Born 1933 in Biella in Italy, where Michelangelo Pistoletto lives and works.

The career of this leading figure of arte povera and conceptual art is unique in many regards ; Michelangelo Pistoletto's work on the time, the mundane, the form, the abstraction is the corollary of a strong humanistic attitude and ethic based art. The "fractal" mirrors are playing an important part in his vision. the mirror is at the center of Pistoletto's work from "Autoritratto oro" (1960), the first "Quadri specchianti" (his 1961-1962's "Mirror-paintings" in which human figures or objects were painted on reflective surfaces), to "Metrocubo d'infinito", the cubic meter of infinity (1966), a sealed cube whose six inner sides are mirrors infinitely reflecting each other. Another action by Pistoletto, manifested through mundane objects and in adequacy with the purpose of Cittadellarte, was to choose a symbol, Segno Arte, his personal insignia derived from Leonardo da Vinci's Vitruvian Man, this drawing-geometrical pattern of a normal man, applied to any everyday life object possible.
