Born 1959 in Saint-Georges-de-Didonne in France, Erik Samakh lives and works in Serres (Hautes-Alpes) in France.

Erik Samakh defines himself at the same time as a visual artist, a landscape artist, a hunter-picker of images and sounds. In 1983, he presents for his first intervention in the Island of Vassivière a "listening post". In the framework of the granite sculpture symposium, the artist proposes a special place to open up one's senses, hearing particularly. All of his future projects and installations will develop the same idea : from a given location, creating a "work-place" aiming to integrate the work with nature or the environment (landscape, architecture ...) by modifying the later with installations that are sometimes te chnically very elaborate.

Lieu d'écoute, in a much basic way than his future works, appears like a megalithic monument framing a specific space and thus inviting us to envision the landscape visually or through its sounds. With that liberation and targeting of the action of listening, the artist push the environment towards the musical score suppressing for a while all the cultural and ideological mechanisms that are restlessly affecting our perception of reality.
